Shihan Anthony Lerma
Owner and Master instructor at America's Best Karate of Danville. He has been teaching Tae Kwon Do for over two decades and currently holds the rank of 6th Dan in Tae Kwon Do and 4th Dan in Hapkido. His formal education is in the field of Criminal Justice. Achieved an Honor Graduate status of the USAF Police Academy where he graduated first in his class. He started his Tae Kwon Do training in 1981 under Master Myong Mayes, now the highest ranking female Tae Kwon Do Master in the world.
Trained in the following Martial Arts: Tae Kwon Do, Hapkido, Jujitsu, Aikido, WuShu, Escrima, Okinawan Kobudo and Tai Chi.
His list of instructors include: Grand Master Myong Mayes, Master George Chung, Master Anthony Chan, Sensei Scott Berg, Grand Master Kambiz Moghaddam, Master Dan Amador, Sifu Yi Ting Lee.
He has appeared in demonstrations and public events including: San Francisco 49ers half time shows, San Jose Clash soccer games, San Francisco Spiders ice hockey games.
He and his students are favorites at local events in San Ramon, Danville and Walnut Creek, California.
Some of his interests include: history, anthropology, ancient and modern world cultures, gardening, kayaking, travel and photography.
He believes his greatest contribution to the arts is teaching young people self respect and self accountability. His source of inspiration are his family and students.
In 1996, Mr. Lerma was promoted to District Manager of the East Bay overseeing the Martial Arts instruction and operations of studios in Pleasanton, San Ramon and Danville, CA.
In 1998, Mr. Lerma acquired ownership of the Danville location.
In 1999, Master Lerma founded the Korean American Martial Arts Association.
In addition to his traditional martial arts program at ABK in Danville, Mr. Lerma taught programs throughout the local school district for over a decade.
In 2002 Master Lerma developed Karate A to Z Martial Arts alphabet curriculum, designed for the needs of pre-school age children.
Seta Lerma, Principal, TAI CHI INSTRUCTOR
Mrs. Lerma joined Mr. Lerma at America's Best Karate in 2005 as the Principal, overseeing the organization, planning and actively participating in the progress and development of the ABK community.
She started practicing Tae Kwon Do in September of 2005 and currently holds a Red Black Belt. Mrs. Lerma is also a student in Tai Chi (Liu He Ba Fa Style) since 2006 under Mrs. Yi Ting Pei and was advanced to Tai Chi Instructor in 2017 when she started a formal class at America’s Best Karate.
Seta Lerma is involved in the arts and currently her focus is on abstract art (3 dimensional impermanent art, painting, photography and design, fiber arts). Her interests include art and history, languages, travel, holistic nutrition, self care and moving meditation.
Mr. Martin Martino
Mr. Martin Martino began his Martial Arts training at America's Best Karate of Danville in 2000 with his two sons, Andrew and James. Mr. Martino received his 1st Degree Black Belt from ABK in 2003, his 2nd Degree in 2007 and 3rd Degree in Tai Kwon Do in March of 2010. Mr Martino continues his training in Tae Kwon Do, Hapkido and other martial skills with Master Lerma. Mr. Martino teaches adults, juniors, and supervises Master Lerma's Black Belt candidate training program, required for Red Black Belts to prepare and qualify for their 1st Degree Black Belt test. You will frequently find Mr. Martino assisting Master Lerma at ABK's monthly belt testing.
Mr. Martino is especially interested in assisting individuals, young or old, in learning practical, effective methods for self defense in real world situations, and has assisted Master Lerma in self defense seminars for women offered through ABK.
Mr. Martino is also a scuba instructor, enjoys basketball, photography, the open ocean, astronomy and traveling with his family. Mr. Martino is married, lives in Danville, both of his sons Andrew and James earned their 1st degree Black Belts at ABK before their high school graduation. Mr. Martino works for Lawrence Livermore Labs.
